WA NET FEED-IN TARIFF ANNOUNCED....! Solar system owners will receive a guaranteed 40c per excess electricity unit sent back to the grid from their system for TEN years. Synergy will pay an additional 7c for a total of 47c per unit. The aim is to assist households to pay off their solar systems sooner. A 1.5KW system can reduce your electricity bill by up to $400 a year at current prices. When rising electricity costs are factored in and the promised net feed-in tariff is introduced on August 1st, this saving will increase significantly. The State government has committed $23 million to the feed-in tariff in the May budget at the same time increasing power charges by 10% with a further 22% rise planned for next year. The Federal Government’s Solar Home and Communities Plan has ended. The Solar credits system which will replace it offers up to $7500 credit for a 1.5KW solar system. However the subsidy is tied to the trading price of RECs (saleable certificates created by any renewable energy generator depending on size and location). In early June 2010 RECs where trading around $35 each creating maximum 'solar credit' of $5425 for a 1.5KW system. With this subsidy the household contribution for an installed 1.5KW system could be as little as $3000. The rebate also removes the means test so now anyone can who didn't receive a previous rebate can apply. This includes businesses who will also be able to take advantage of tax deduxtions and depreciation on plant and equipment. The new Solar Credits system also removes the previous waiting period so now we are able to instal within weeks rather than months.
